Listed below are details and screen shots of some of the client work we have completed.
Anark Corporation
Products: Galapagos, Anark Studio v1.0, v1.5
Galapagos was one of the most innovative games of our time in 1996. Developed exclusively by Anark and published by Electronic Arts, we were brought in to port their existing Mac version over to Windows. Being that Anark was a Macintosh software development company we were able to educate them on the technologies and development tools available for Windows development. We first developed the framework for the program, and then assisted in porting existing classes over from the Macintosh (sound, keyboard, user interface components) while at the same time assisted with porting their custom 3D game engine to DirectX/Direct3D.
Gameplay itself was a marvel. With shoot-em-up games being the norm, this game required logic, intelligence and the ability to train "Mendel" (the main character, seen
in the screen shot below) to learn how to maneuver around the various worlds in the game. The better a player could assist Mendel, the smarter it became to navigate around the world and thus escape from Galapagos. It presented a unique method of game play where learning/teaching was the key (rather than mindless violence).
The levels were unique and challenging, and the 3D worlds and
graphics were breathtaking! [Click

We helped design and create the first version of the software, starting from scratch. Working with the Anark Studio development team we then integrated the Studio software interface with the proprietary DirectX 3D viewer, added components and functionality to get to the first release. We were so successful and ahead of schedule and expectations that we continued on with version 1.5, providing additional features and fulfilling customer requests to make the product even better.

Apple Computer, Inc.
Product: eWorld
Do you remember eWorld? It was Apple Computer's innovative approach to an online service based on the concept of community. What about eWorld client software for Windows?! Yes - Windows! Apple's eWorld client software was based on AOL technologies and Apple realized that in order to truly compete, they had to swallow their pride and also provide a Windows client for eWorld. Barefoot Productions' lead developer, Don Metzler, single-handedly worked on and completed the eWorld for Windows client software, working just like the existing version of eWorld on the Mac. After that was proven and moved into beta, time was spent developing a replacement for eWorld, to help Apple migrate away from AOL technologies. A full eWorld replacement was created, but using standardized internet protocols to obtain data (gopther, http, smtp, pop3, ftp, and nntp). Unfortunately Apple never chose to ship this wonderful product we had created.

Gulfstream Aerospace
Product: PowerDown utility
The PowerDown utility was created exclusively for GulfSteam Aerospace in response to a need for a customized subset of our existing AutoShutdown software. The software is installed on-board corporate Gulfstream jets as they are configured before shipment from the factory. The PowerDown utility software works with the local network of computers on-board the aircraft and can shut them down when the aircraft power is lost when the pilot shuts down the aircraft.

FileSplitter was used to break apart large files into manageable pieces that could be joined back together. Splits could occur based on a specific split size, or made to fit across multiple removable storage disk formats.

IHS Energy Group
Products: PetroNet 21 / Data Visualizer
IHS Energy Group is a leader in providing oil & gas data to the petroleum industry and petroleum engineers. Barefoot Productions assisted with getting that data to customers using the Internet as the delivery medium. We provided Java applets that worked to read their data, provide a query interface to users and then deliver data as they requested. The solution revolutionized the way oil and gas well and production data could be delivered across the internet to customers.
The PetroNet 21 system was used to provide selection of data that was packaged and delivered electronically. A Java applet was designed and developed to allow data to be queried based on a number of parameters. After selections were made, a second applet was used to display the results, which could then be selected for purchase.

Barefoot Productions also worked with managers and engineers at PI/Dwights and IHS Energy Group to create the
Data Visualizer application tool suite. This tool set allowed customers and engineers alike to view data in various forms - in tables, charts, graphs and other visual means - to help distill which data and information was important. In addition to viewing data, reports could be generated based on selected criteria to provide hard copy output to be used in further analysis and planning for petroleum engineering.
The result was a tool that made organizing and reviewing large datasets possible and added value to the data and information that was already provided, thus generating growth and new customers for their business.

Mathemaesthetics, Inc.
Product: Unitaxon Browser
The Unitaxon Browser application was initially a Macintosh software program used to display and search through taxonomic data. It was important to reuse code from the Macintosh version (object-oriented C code) to be able to maintain the code, as well as create an interface which would function and look like the Macintosh version of the software.

Panoptic Vision
Product: SLiVR
SLiVR was developed with Panoptic Vision to be the customized application software used with their flagship digital panoramic camera. The software was able to capture, crop, edit and seam together images from the camera into true panoramic images (supported formats: QuickTime VR, IPix, etc.). The camera and software were innovative in that they provided a complete solution for capturing digital panoramic images that could be viewed almost immediately. There was no longer any stitching of multiple images required as the SLiVR software took care of creating a seamless image all at once.

Using MuteBar, you now have a quick one-click solution to mute your sound output when you need to in a hurry. The utility showed how to access the audio mixer controls in Windows to be able to change volume levels and mute specified channels.

The Scraper utility has proven to be one of the ones we use most around the Barefoot Productions' office. Using Scraper, you may select text from other programs and copy it to the clipboard. For instance, you may clip text from a message box window, a web page or any available window that is available. This makes it easy to copy and paste text that is normally not accessible. Scraper prevents having to re-type this information. Simply drag the crosshair cursor from scraper and select the target text/window where you want to "scrape" the text. Let go of the mouse button and Scraper captures the text to its window as well as copies it to the system clipboard.
Further, scraper can be used to capture images by using a toggle key (control). Perform the same process as with text, but dragging the crosshair cursor will select a window area from which to capture its image to the clipboard. Any and all data may be saved to a text or image file, depending on the format of the "scraped" object.
